What happens when we have to mortgage the White House and Air Force One?

It does not appear that there is an end in sight to all the government overspending. The government has promised and mandated by law what they cannot deliver on. We point to the ponzi scheme set up by Madoff today, but it pails in comparison to the ponzi scheme run by our government, namely Social Security.

I foresee Medicare, Social Security although we will pay into it will not be here for certain soon. I also expect that they will raise the age to 75 or 79 to receive benefits.

Everyone should watch the IOUSA video. One thing the video did not cover however, was how universal healthcare might impact our national debt. We obviously, can’t afford it based on where we are now. I still would like to see how adding that type of spending would have on the the over all financial projections within the video.

Also, I would like to see a revision of the video after all the bailouts.

One thing that struck me is now earmarks are 1% of GDP. That is only a small, but growing part of the federal budget.

Thanks for bringing this subject to light. I agree the biggest ponzi scheme is Social Security and now Americans want to just hand over their health care and their health care dollars to the same government that has bankrupted Medicare and Social Security.

Our government is not a good steward of our tax money as has already been demonstrated by these two examples so why would they do better job with our retirement or our healthcare. Nationalizing the 401k system would have dire consequences and destroy personal wealth.

@ Josh – Yes, the I.O.U.S.A. video is very eye opening, and the message couldn’t be coming from a more credible source.

@ Jim – I agree 401k nationalization would have dire consequences. That’s why I don’t believe it’s a huge risk, but over the past 10 years I have learned that only uncertainty is certain when it comes to politics and world events. To me, the comfort of being insulated against the risk of something like 401k nationalization is a no-brainer.
